Heat wave!

With the weather on the up, and a more comfortable working environment being a priority, it is essential to consider methods which you can keep you and your colleagues cool and healthy during warm spells.

Comfort is Key

Although there is no upper legal temperature limit, it has been proven that the ideal office environment has a temperature of between 21.1 and 22.8 Celsius. The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 states that employers should ensure that the working environment temperature should be ‘reasonable’, and the World Health Organisation states that in temperate climate (such as the temperate maritime here in the UK), the optimum indoor temperature is between 18 and 24 Celsius.

With these facts in mind, it is sensible to invest in equipment to help not only increase the airflow in a work environment, but to help raise staff morale and therefore productivity. If you already have an air conditioning unit, can you remember the last time it was serviced?! It is suggested that units are serviced at least twice a year, with those in environments such as restaurants, server rooms, and retail shops to be serviced more frequently.

If you are looking to upgrade, service, or purchase a new air conditioning unit, have you considered an alternative? A humidifier, such as an evaporative cooling system, is an excellent alternative to the more traditional air conditioning unit that many of us are used to- but as a bonus it helps to stop those nasty bugs and eases those oh-so-common summer hay fever symptoms!

Sick Life

15-20% of the UK population suffer from hay fever (plus many undiagnosed) and it contributes to 4 million sick days taken every year. This is thought to increase as the climate changes, so why not make the change now and invest in the health and wellbeing of your staff, and thus your future profits!
